BE BONAFIDE on Social Media

Social media has been weighing on my mind a lot lately.  Let’s be honest, many of us have a love/hate relationship with it.

PROS

We can send messages and pictures (that used to take forever) around the world in seconds. We can keep in touch with loved ones daily and easily no matter how many miles separate us. We can share everything! What we look like, what we’re eating, what we’re reading, how cute our kids are as they grow and change, and just chronicling our day to day live like a virtual scrapbook.  We can keep in contact with friends and groups that we’re involved with, and enjoy uplifting messages and quotes that are shared daily, AND much more!

CONS

More and more people are depressed because of the perfect lives that are being portrayed. Arthur C. Brooks, a prominent thought leader, put it this way.

What do you post to Facebook? Pictures of yourself yelling at your kids, or having a hard time at work? No, you post smiling photos of a hiking trip with friends. You build a fake life — or at least an incomplete one — and share it. Furthermore, you consume almost exclusively the fake lives of your social media “friends.” Unless you are extraordinarily self-aware, how could it not make you feel worse to spend part of your time pretending to be happier than you are, and the other part of your time seeing how much happier others seem to be than you?

Then I came across this great movement called:

bbonafide

I absolutely love what these girls have been up to!  In their words…

Lets get real- we are not perfect.

The Social media world is all about painting that perfect picture. Perfect kids, perfect vacations, perfect makeup, perfect body, and so on. Nowadays with technology at our fingertips we are all striving to portray that flawless image of how we want others to view us.

That is not real life; having struggles is real life. Those struggles have molded us to the people we are today.

So, some friends and I decided to join in the Be BonaFied movement #bonafiedconfessions #letsgetreal
